Thom Lowther is the Continuing Education Systems (CES) Senior Director at the American Institute of Architects (AIA ) in Washington, D.C. He oversees quality of the continuing professional education program for the AIA/CES Registered Providers and the records of AIA members. He also serves as the Institute’s liaison on mandatory continuing education (MCE) related issues with state licensing boards and international professional associations.

Since arriving at the AIA in 1995 Thom has presented or facilitated educational programs at numerous national and international events. Thom is a faculty member for the CES Firm Leadership Summit and the ACEC & AIA/CES Complex & Adaptive Leadership Seminar for A/E/C Professionals. He has taught a variety of leadership, marketing, and educational courses such as Situational Leadership: A change in behavior; A/E Firms: Adjusting to the Shifts; and From Instructor to Facilitator; Use of Case Studies.

Thom is the co-author of the online Organizational Self-Assessment tool, http://tools.epiconnection.org/.
He is considered and expert and frequently consults internationally with numerous A/E/C firms and professional design organizations about establishing and/or enhancing their internal professional development programs. In 2002, Thom established EPIConnection.org (Education, Practice, Industry Connection), an online service that matches the needs and resources of each professional sector.

Thom currently serves on the Board of the Learning Resources Network (LERN), a leading international continuing education association; is a Public Board Member of the AIC Contractor Certification Commission; and is on the Professional Development Committee of the US Green Building Council.
