As Heapy’s Director of Sustainable Design, Michael is responsible for supervision of the firm’s LEED projects and is directly involved with the training of Heapy’s LEED Accredited Professionals. To date, Heapy is providing services for over 60 LEED projects and has over 45 LEED AP’s on staff. Michael is a frequent lecturer on LEED and Green Building concepts and has written a number of articles on Sustainable Design. He directed the effort to obtain the LEED-NC SILVER Certification for the Heapy Engineering Headquarters.

Michael was a speaker at the Dallas, Texas, February 1988 ASHRAE Annual Meeting Technical Program on the subject of "Case Studies of Energy Efficient Buildings" and a speaker at the May 2005, 13th National Conference on Building Commissioning in New York, New York on the subject of Commissioning for LEED Buildings. He presented the topic: “Practical Application of Sustainable Design” at the September 2006 World Energy Engineering Conference in Washington DC. Michael was also a speaker at the May 2007 AIA-National Convention in San Antonio, TX on the subject of Sustainable Design.
